I did some research and came up with this comparison between the 450D and the 40D. I think for only $350 more, the 40D will still be my choice.

What do you think about this in comparison with the D40? I’ve been looking at that one. My current camera is a pro-sumer S2-IS and I’ve been anxious to upgrade to a DSLR.

Wow, almost everything I've wanted in a DSLR. Even a decent lens in the bundle. They're going to sell a ton of these to those of us who have been watching from the sidelines. I've been hoping for a 1:1 35mm equivalent in an affordable camera, but I'm starting to accept that stitching software may be my wide-angle solution, without the barrel distortion at that. Adam – I don’t think it has any features that you really need. I wouldn’t recommend upgrading until you have outgrown the feature set of your current SLR.

But if you want it just to satiate some sort of gadget-lust, then you should go for it.
