Wonder how any one person can amass a large quanity of U S Mint coins and sell them to the public at an inflated price. For you Eric, stop your whinniinngg, you probably made enough money selling your coins on E-Bay to retire. The ordinary public should be so lucky to come across a mass amount of error coins but that will NEVER happen. Enclosed is a crying towel for you Eric.

[...] No More Godless Presidential Dollar Coins. Or at least, they’ll be harder to come by. This bill also includes text that mandates that the text “In God We Trust” move off the edge of the coin, and to one of the faces. Due to space considerations, this will likely mean moving to the face of the coin with the President. The text was moved to the edge, of course, to give more space on the face of the coin for the Presidential image. But, with the release of the first coin, there was a large error rate with the Philidelphia mint version that led to the creation of “godless dollars“, with no edge text. Despite the fact that this problem has not been repeated with the 3 subsequent coins for John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, a cottage industry has sprung up of people sanding the text off the edge of dollar coins.
Hi Eric,

I'm not sure that most collectors are equipped to evaluate a real from a fake coin through techniques like size & weight measurement, but you are absolutely correct. You can detect fake coins by carefully measuring the width down to a tenth-of-a-milimeter and the weight down to a tenth-of-a-gram.

The market for error coins is not going away, so I think it's prudent for people to be careful here with a purchase that is not cheap.

Hey... id just like to say that your article and others like this are extremely irresponsible and INCOMPLETE.. i had several morons who purchased coins from me on ebay read your article or one like it.. then without doing any further research, complain to ebay and have my account suspended ! costing me 100's of thousands in potential profits during the height of the bidding on these error coins... PERHAPS YOU MAY HAVE INCLUDED THE VERY SIMPLE STATEMENT OF HOW EASILY VERIFIABLE THE LEGITIMATE ERRORS WOULD BE THROUGH SIMPLE SIZE AND WEIGHT MEASUREMENTS OF THE COIN ??

JUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS..
